Apartment
in Casa Rustici

Milano

This project involves the renovation of an apartment located in Casa Rustici, a building designed by Giuseppe Terragni and Pietro Lingeri.

The intervention focuses on optimizing the living spaces in direct relation to the existing windows and the apartment’s original dimensions, enhancing both spatial quality and natural light.

Some existing furniture pieces have been retained, though modified to integrate more harmoniously within the updated layout.

Due to the very limited dimensions of the dining room, various strategies were employed to perceptually expand the space. Narrow vertical mirrors were installed along one of the longer walls, composed in a rhythm that evokes a framed artwork. A transparent table made of glass and plexiglass was introduced to visually reduce volume, paired with lightweight chairs featuring a minimal steel frame, contributing to a sense of openness.

The ceiling was also lowered to align with the window height and sculpted into a concave, stepped form. This intervention transforms the ceiling into an architectural element, evoking the presence of a large, integrated chandelier and adding depth and identity to the space.
